Canoying in Río Grande

This gorge is excellent for young children or a group of friends who want to enjoy a day of adventure without being physically demanding.

The most arduous part of this activity is getting to the gorge and the uphill climb from the car park to starting point which is located at the source of the Zarzalones. With water all year round it is not recommended to descend this gorge alone during the rainy season. Its abseiling with jumps into potholes, some of which are bottomless, is outstanding. Along the route one can appreciate man’s intervention from diverting the water flow to generate electricity to the construction of irrigation ditches to irrigate the many fruit trees found growing in terraces carved into the mountain. The descent finishes next to the car park.
